Screenwriting for Hollywood is 2 Years Old!

Screenwriting for Hollywood is two years old; it’s hard to believe. 144 posts have been written, averaging 6 posts per month, about which 1,230 visitor comments were made.

“Most Famous PG Underwear Scenes in Cinema” is hands down the most popular post I have written with 21,930 page views as of today. Thank you to Melissa and Brett for their post theme idea.

March 30, 2008 was my busiest day with 1,033 page views in one day. The majority of those visitors went to this post: “Sunday Picture Post 4 / Tip: Focus.”

“Sexist America, Racist Hollywood” sparked the most discussion in the comments section.

From around the world, 68,613 absolutely unique visitors have come to Screenwriting for Hollywood looking for some information that I hopefully provided for them. 30% of those visitors come back regularly.

Today at SfH are visitors from Manila, Taipei, India, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Istanbul, Romania, Algeria, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Europe, Canada, Australia, and of course all over the USA. Imagine the stories these screenwriters have to tell!

The majority of my traffic comes from other referring sites, while search engines provide the bulk of the remainder. By the 728 individuals who came to SfH in search of “sigourney weaver underwear,” for example, we can see what are important world issues. I have the comfort in knowing that I satisfied their curiosity.

The best parts about launching Screenwriting for Hollywood are the friends I have made and the joys from reading their websites: Writing Forward, FreelanceSwitch, The Deep Friar, Understanding in a Car Crash, Ingenious Title, IndoobWords for Hire, The Reel Ninja, The Movie Fanatic, and DailyActor, to name a few (for more, see my linkydinks).

Above all, it has been a profound pleasure working with screenwriters to help them take their unique stories and prepare sellable scripts for Hollywood. Live the dream!

Thank you all for your inspiration.

Happy New Year 2010!

May we reach our goals and have happy surprises.

    Happy Birthday SfH!

In the Venerable Tomes that speak of such lofty matters, it is written that a Birthday is a major event. It is the day that marks the confluence of cosmic energies that have brought this unique entity into existence.

Every year, as the spiral staircase of time turns again to this day, those energies are again prominent, and it is a time of good fortune to continue the good that has already been accomplished, and plan growth for yet greater good things.

How all this relates to a Belated Birthday Wish, the Venerable Tomes did not say …

HAPPY BELATED BIRHTDAY anyway :-))) !!!

and as each year passes, may you have ever greater satisfied happiness from your wonderful site, and personal fulfillment carried over into all aspects of your life.

    Dustin Asch —
What a pleasant surprise!! I love what you have said, more than you could know, as it touches upon some recurring dream themes of mine.
Was thinking about you and your script recently. I just watched a certain nominated film and your script is sooooo much better!!! Unfortunately, ‘who you know’ often outweighs what is quality. I do hope you make a sale with that and that it shines a bright light in the dark theaters.
    Best to you!

    Dear Jaden,

Joining you in celebrating SfH’s 2nd year!!!

I know I’ve been so out of touch, but remember this – your advise and support and friendship… I’ll treasure them forever!

Kudos and more power to you my friend!!!

    Hugs,
    Jed

Jed — Thank you! We had lots of fun in our early days. This post is becoming like a little reunion. Our successes keep us busy.

Happy Blogiversary! Yes, I’m late to the party but I brought a pole and some underground dance music so perhaps you’ll forgive me :) Here’s to two more years and many more after that! Muah!

Oh Happy Day! Two years? Really? It feels like so much longer than that. I thought your blog had been around much longer!

In any event, I’m glad that you stuck by it after all this time. I’ve learned a great deal from you and I refuse to let the wisdom and knowledge you shared with the world (literally) to go out in vain. It’s like that little girl and the starfish story, to that one starfish, you make a difference.

I apologize for not visiting as much as I’d like to. I’m doing the best I can to keep writing anything consistently. But another appropriate phrase you said works best (and is the truth), it’s only two words: life happens. Life has indeed (indoob) been happening and it’s been quite a challenge to keep up with it sometimes. But everyone once in a while I stop to smell the roses that take the form of blog posts from my writer friends. So please continue! Many more posts to come!

Melissa Donovan — SfH would not be here at all if it were not for your inspiration, guidance, encouragement, and knowledge. Remember our early conversations? “Do I have to call it a blog? I hate the word blog. There must be something else I can call it?” Thank you o’ wise one (and late night partier)!
    ;-)

    t. sterling — Thank you. You are an exciting and unforeseen edition to SfH. I don’t know the starfish story but starfish are fascinating.
Yes, life happens… All of us busy writers, learning and inspired by each other, then taking off into our own little worlds, it makes me think of this song that makes me cry:

CATS IN THE CRADLE by Harry Chapin

My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin’ ‘fore I knew it, and as he grew
He’d say “I’m gonna be like you dad
You know I’m gonna be like you”

And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
    When you comin’ home dad?
I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then son
You know we’ll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, “Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let’s play
Can you teach me to throw”, I said “Not today
I got a lot to do”, he said, “That’s ok”
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, “I’m gonna be like him, yeah
You know I’m gonna be like him”

And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
    When you comin’ home son?
I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then son
You know we’ll have a good time then

Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
“Son, I’m proud of you, can you sit for a while?”
He shook his head and said with a smile
“What I’d really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?”

And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
    When you comin’ home son?
I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then son
You know we’ll have a good time then

I’ve long since retired, my son’s moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, “I’d like to see you if you don’t mind”
He said, “I’d love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job’s a hassle and kids have the flu
But it’s sure nice talking to you, Dad
It’s been sure nice talking to you”

And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He’d grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
    When you comin’ home son?
I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then son
You know we’ll have a good time then

I’ve only ever heard the chorus to that song, not knowing what it was about until now, just hearing it for the first time ever, I can see why it would make you cry.

But let’s only have tears of joy or from laughing too much :o)

As for the starfish story I’ll paraphrase from memory:

There was a little girl walking along the beach early one morning. She had been tossing starfish into the ocean that had been stranded along the shore after the tide had receded. There were tons of starfish all around. Without water soon, many of the starfish would die.

A man approaches her and tells her, “Wee child, why are you doing this? There are so many of them, you’ll never be able to save them all.”

The girl looks back at the man and tells him, “To that one, I made a difference.”

I heard this story told a few times during high school when motivational speakers would come. Afterwards, starfish pins were passed out to all the kids there… which seemed a little silly to me but I understood the point. I lost the pin but I still hold on to the story. With that, I liken you to the little girl throwing us starfish back into the ocean.

    t. sterling — Very sweet starfish story. Thank you.

CONGRATULATIONS, Honey! I’m always proud of you, but you have put a lot of work and effort into your website and you continue to make it better and better and more interesting! I like the photo too. Love – Mom
