Dream Cast for My Script

by Jaden

Dream Cast

The current fiction screenplay I am writing is a murder mystery time period piece that has a thing or two to say about the press.

This is my dream cast:

George Clooney

Kirsten Dunst

John C. Reilly

Cate Blanchett

Benicio Del Toro

Catherine Keener

One time, a screenwriter told me to write with certain actors in mind; it helps to shape the story and give life to the characters. This works great for me and my writing partner. When working with a partner, it also helps to make sure you have the same vision. Additionally, the hope is that it will resonate with the actors and, best case scenario, they accept to play the roles.

By looking at the photos, who do you think gets killed? Who is the murderer? Who is blamed for the murder?

What is your dream cast ensemble?

Oh this is a fun one! I have no idea about the victim and murderer, but if it were me, I’d have George Clooney as the victim, Kirsten Dunst as the murderer. However, Kirsten would not be his mistress (too expected).

Catherine Keener would be George’s widow. Cate and Benicio would be the (wrong) suspect.s and John C. Reilly would be the detective.

Great post. Makes me feel like writing a story or a script. More like this!

Thanks Melissa! Your creative fun response excites me too and makes me want to get back to the script. So many different possibilities and twists. Your comment just goes to show that what I am saying about having actors in mind when writing is truly helpful, as it sparked a bunch of ideas for you. The human mind is very visually inspired.

Dream cast indeed! I watched Michael Clayton on my flight home, and I have been thinking that perhaps he should have won the Oscar Best Actor. I can’t seem to forget his confrontation with Tilda Swinton at the end of the movie, it rocks!!!!!

Back to the topic, I think Kirsten should play the murderer, an she can be quite good being bad. Clooney would definitely be superb as the detective, while Cate Blanchett may even be Clooney’s partner doing the investigation. Del Torro is the one who gets killed, while the ’suffering wife’ is Keener LOL

Reilly is the sidekick who gets al the right information, but may also get killed as he gets too close to the truth…sounds like a whodunit with a touch of noir!

    Great post as usual!

    Thanks Jed!

You must see ORLANDO starring Tilda Swinton, if you haven’t, that’s what turned me on to her ages ago. Fantastic. Also, a top favorite screenplay of mine - unique.

Great guesses on the murder story. I’ll say only that you and Melissa are hot on the trail! I’m having so much fun reading the different versions.

I can’t wait to get this movie out into the world, I think it will be a big hit! I can only pray to get this cast. I have a few alternate actors that would also do great.

Jaden, this is a really fun post! Well, here is my own spin, and use of your dream cast for your murder mystery screenplay…..

    * Benicio Del Toro gets killed.
    * Catherine Keener is the murderer and wife of Benicio Del Toro’s character.

    * George Clooney would be blamed/framed for the murder, and maybe also his wife Cate Blanchett, because it would be later discovered that George Clooney was, or had been, having a secret affair with Benicio Del Toro.

    * Kirsten Dunst would be the newspaper reporter writing and investigating the story.

    * John C. Reilly would be the detective.

Lets see, my dream cast would be Ryan Gosling, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ellen Page, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Sarah Polly perhaps. I would also definately have added Heath Ledger as well (*sigh*).

Who are your alternate actors Jaden?! Here’s wishing you the best of luck, and hope to see it on the big screen, and hope to hear more about your screenplay.

to JAN: Oh my gosh, I am laughing so loudly at your comment! RE: Clooney and Benicio’s secret affair! Good heavens. Now there is something I never thought. Still laughing here. You took this movie to a whole new level — really great job with that! You write fiction?

Very nice dream cast you selected, I would definitely watch your movie with that cast no matter what was the story.

My alternates are: Gael García Bernal for the Benicio role, but because Benicio is more gritty and tougher, he would be better in this case; Bernal would make the character something totally different, lighter, but ok too. The Cate B. role could be filled by lots of people, it is a sick weak implied lesbian; again, Cate would just be the best. My heart is really set on the other 4 actors. Anybody other than them would change the movie feel too drastically.

    Thanks. That was great.

Guess I gave your screenplay a different spin huh, LOL?! Glad to hear you enjoyed my somewhat overactive imagination. In answer to your question if I write fiction…no, I never have. Wish I was a writer.

Ah yes, my dream cast….the mischief I could get all those handsome actors into, if I did a movie, LOL.

Gael García Bernal, now your talking! Cate is an amazing actress I agree. She certainly pulled off her gender bending role in I’m Not There as Dylan. I can certainly understand like you say, that you have a way you want to see your movie be and feel, and that the other 4 actors fit how you invision your movie to be.

Since you gave your dream cast…..who’s your dream director? You?

    to JAN:
re: “who’s your dream director? You?”
    You have me laughing again.

Too big of a budget and too high powered of a cast for me to be the director.

Steven Soderbergh, Clooney, or Coen Brothers — each would be great and each would make something completely different.

Got something to say?
