Robert Pattinson Plays Dali in Little Ashes
by Jaden
Back in March, there was a big stir amongst screenwriters and fans on the Internet about Johnny Depp ‘auditioning’ scripts in search of a screenplay about Salvador Dali.
The minor detail that you don’t audition scripts, you submit them, set off my rinky-dink internal alarm that this was a bogus news piece that was running rampant on every online news source without a single fact checker amongst them.
Needless to say, seven months later, there is still no officially announced commitment by Johnny Depp to play Dali or “audition” scripts.
Fret not.
An independent film about Salvador Dalí and his buddies filmmaker Luis Buñuel and poet Federico García Lorca is set to come out in the United Kingdom in 2009. Little Ashes: Love, Art, Betrayal, is written by Philippa Goslett and directed by Paul Morrison. A screening rolled this week at the Raindance Film Festival.
Due to its low budget and current lack of distribution in the USA, a fan website dedicated itself to tell you all about it; it’s called the Little Ashes Promotional Blitz Project.
If you want to see this film in your country, they would love for you to join their publicity fun wagon.
As Dali and his pals were independent thinkers, what better type of filmmakers and publicity people to represent them than independents?

Got something to say?

from the reviews coming out from Raindance, I have to say that I cant wait to see this film, it just sounds too wonderful to miss. Robert Pattinson has a bright future ahead of him, cant wait to see him in this role and others to come.
This movie seems amazing and I am very anxious to see it. The Little Ashes Promotional Blitz Project has been very informative for me in regards to this film. I believe the right people were cast to play these rolls and the reviews I have read thus far on the film seem to say the same thing. I am just so excited!
:-)
Most of the reviews of Little Ashes coming out of Raindance say that this film is excellent and very moving.
Thank you for your mention of the Little Ashes Promo website. Getting the word out to as many as possible will help make it possible for all who want to see this film to be able to see it.
Exactly! Who better than independents to get the ball rolling on indie films that are always getting over looked due to its small budget? Production companies and other outlets need to be sure there is a demand from an audience in order to get enough motivation and thus presenting the film. Otherwise, the film just gets thrown to the side, left to be unexpectantly discovered by a handful of people and never truly appreciated.
With fans whom are interested in not only seeing the film, but who have the determination and willingness to do what it takes to see these types of films thrive, the big dog’s ears perk up, paying attention. There’s nothing more fascinating, in my opinion, than seeing a group of film/actor aficionados fighting to bring a project they care about into the spotlight, saving it from cinematic purgatory.
That’s our goal!
I love tMF and the Little Ashes promotional site for keeping us up to date on this movie. Thank you for mentioning them. Obviously, I look forward to seeing Little Ashes. Hopefully in San Francisco, pretty please!
Just wanted to say thank you, here, for your promotion of the film Little Ashes, and for your awesome mention and encouragement of our Promotional Blitz site!

Hi I’ve just come back from watching Little Ashes at the Raindance film festival and I just wanted to say how amazing it is! I really hope the companies see the potential in this film and it gets as wide a distribution as possible.
It’s a beautiful story, really heartbreaking and the acting by the four leads (Javier Beltran as Lorca, Robert Pattinson as Dali, Matthew McNulty as Bunuel and Marina Gatell as Magdalena) was superb. I highly recommend watching this film – so encourage your local cinema to show it!
Thanks everyone for visiting and for your extra insights about the movie.
I am excited for this film to cross the pond to cinemas in USA– particularly NYC! I have already contacted theaters near my area and hope that the demand for this film gets through to those in charge of it’s showing. I’ve heard amazing critiques from those who’ve already seen it and cannot wait!!
I going to check out this “Little Ashes Promotional Blitz” site you mentioned thanks!
Can’t wait to see this film — maybe it will make it to NYC early in the new year!
I can concur that after seeing Little Ashes at the Raindance Festival that it is so worthy of worldwide distribution, nay worldwide domination. It’s beautifully written, wonderfully acted and the cinematography is breathtaking.
Go see it, I implore you all!!!
Is there any chance that ‘Little Ashes’ will be released in Indonesia? Heck, if it’s released in any part of Asia, I would be extremely happy and satisfied for that matter. Reading the outstanding reviews for this movie is making me jumpy.
As a huge fan of Rob Pattinson, I am anxiously awaiting the release of Little Ashes. The reviews of the film at the Raindance festival were exceptional on all accounts and I am hoping they bring the film here to NYC (and the states) so that we have have the chance to enjoy it as well.
A big thanks for mentioning the Little Ashes Promotional Blitz Project too. It’s a fabulous site, truly dedicated to promoting this wondeful film. And it certainly has contributed to why I am so excited to experience this movie first hand.
Thank you for mentioning this film! I have only heard good things about it after it’s showing at Raindance and I cannot wait to see it. I hope it will be shown somewhere on the west coast, within driving distance, because I will gladly put the car in drive for this. Not to mention anxiously waiting to add it to my DVD collection.
Jaden, thanks for the heads up on this film. Some of the best films have been those small, unsung gems made by independent filmmakers. They are often more raw, honest and detailed in their depiction of characters and events. I am not sure if a little gem like this would make it to my neck of the woods but I will rally with others to make it happen!
Thanks for your support of this film and the website. The staff behind the promotional site have done a tremendous amount of work on their own resources and they deserve all the credit. I would very much like to see this film in Canada and I hope it gets distributed here!
Jaden,
I don’t understand the politics of all of this, but I’d like to see the fim if they can get it out. I like films about painters.
I like Johnny Depp but he does have his limits as to what he can play (act). I don’t think he can be stretched too far.
how do i get this in Wisconsin in the US cuz i really want to see it. is it coming out on dvd?
GREAT JOB EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT. It looks like the movie got picked up by Regent Releasing for the U.S.

I for one cannot wait for this film to be released. Robert Pattinson is a talented + gorgeous man. Can’t wait to see him in this.
I LOVE ROBERT PATTINSON, more than your mum.
I dont think that it is right that the talented and sexy robert pattinson has to do gay scenes with some stupid lookin guy that makes him look like the most worst actor ever.on top of that, how messed up is it that robert has to play a gay artist.just to think about robert pattinson doing something like this is what i call “against the law”.robert pattinson is my favorite actor.i cant wait til twilight comes out on dvd but come on man.im a 12 year old girl totally in love with the twilight saga and on top of that i have to see my favorite actor play the most gayest person in the world.i just hopethat robert doesn’t have to do anything that would make him lose a lot of fans.i’ll admit that im mad yes i am, but i still love robert.i just hope that this turns out to be one of those movies that goes straight to dvd because,if it isnt i dont know wat i’ll do thinkin about robert, gettin freaky with some ugly, crusty disgusting old actor!it should be illegal for robert to have to do something like that.i hope that it doesnt air.icause the day it does robert pattinson will probably lose the exactly perfect star number one biggest fan.so suck on that, director!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am SO excited to see this movie…cant wait!!!XD
I am a surrealist enthusiast, and I am excited about this film. I hope it comes out soon

I HAVE SEEN SOME MOVIE CLIPS ABOUT THE MOVIE AND SO FAR I LIKE THE MOVIE I CANT WAIT TO SEE IT.
Lord save us from the tween/teen screeching. Robert is perfectly within his rights to choose whatever role he pleases (though after seeing the trailer and clips of this movie, why he chose to waste his talent on Twilight is beyond me). I’m definitely looking forward to this film; the acting (by all) seems spot on, and the moonlit sea scene in the trailer was breathtaking.
WOW, ok i am a HUGE Robert Fan as well as a HUGE Twilight fan…But OMe come on… i cant wait to see this movie!! Robert is a FANTASTIC actor and from all the wonderful reviews i am hearing about his performance i honest cant wait to see this!! Robert has a very bright future ahead of him and i wish him all the best of luck!! YAY for Robert!! YAY for Twilight! and YAY for your brillant performance in Little Ashes!!!
i just love period piece movies not to mention robert pattison, please can this movie be seen in canada, not just in the big cities only, i live in moncton, nb, why not make money for everyone that made this movie possible.
thank-you for trying…
Vancouver is the luckiest city on earth…. having the entire Twilight cast there… and ROB… every day… Rob… there is never enough Rob.
He was in Cannes too, probably to promote the film
THIS FILM LOOKS VERY INTERESTING. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT. I HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO SEE THE TRAILER BUT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE. BRING IT TO THE US.
“Ashes” wasn’t being released anywhere near me, so I ordered it (DVD release was July 13 in UK). It’s a Region 2 DVD, though, and can’t be played on many US players. There are websites where you can find “free unlocking codes” that unblock some players by just punching the code in on your universal, but I couldn’t find one for mine. So I purchased a Multi-region DVD player. Now I can play other international movies too–it’s fun! Hope this helps
Too late tonight to try my hand at a “review”, but the movie is much more intriguing the second time through–I had to develop my “ear” for the accents.
This is Allan Rich, go to Salvadore Dali on IMDB and click on his portrait, there you will find me with dali twice and my wife with him at the st.Regis hotel in 1974. Yours truly is the only one in this silly town who spent years publishing and distributing his work all during the years I was blacklisted. “My time with Dali” is about the summer of 1971 that I spent with him in Spain. When I published “Memories of Surrealism. My story is the only one based on the TRUTH. Allan Rich P.S. I just wrapped my 71st feature since the blacklist.
Robert as the DIVINE DALI!! This makes me sick how badly cast he is, that drunken slob with no fire is horrible, this is an insult to Dali
